Route 9 Stop Results In Drug Possession Charges For Man, Woman

A traffic stop in the Town of Poughkeepsie has resulted in drug possession charges for a Dutchess man and woman, according to police.

New York State Police say they initiated a vehicle stop on State Route 9 in the town of Poughkeepsie after observing a 2000 Mercury Marquis commit a traffic violation on Wednesday, April 10 around 2:30 a.m.

Further investigation revealed that the car’s occupants, identified as Derek Guzman, 34, of Hyde Park and Sara Gumaer, 33, of Poughkeepsie, were allegedly in possession of the following:

  • Approximately 7.8 grams of heroin
  • Approximately .8 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 8.6 grams of Naxolone

Police also say the driver, Guzman, had five suspensions on his license.

Guzman and Gumaer were arrested and face the following charges:

  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor

Guzman was also charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, an unclassified misdemeanor, according to police.

Both suspects were arraigned before the town of Stamford Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail. Guzman was remanded in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secure bond. Gumaer was remanded in lieu of $8,000 cash bail or $10,000 secure bond.

Both suspects were scheduled to appear in the town of Poughkeepsie Court on Wednesday, April 10.
